Sustainable energy on site: New solar farm at Plant 2
A modern solar park is being built on our outdoor area at Plant 2 in Ohrdruf, consisting of more than 3.000 solar modules. In the future, the plant will generate a significant part of our electricity needs directly on-site, helping to further decarbonize our energy supply. The goal is to increase our self-consumption of renewable energy, significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and make our energy supply more efficient and independent in the long term.
Performance data of the plant
The expected annual output of the solar park:
- • PV generator energy: 1.950 MWh/year
- • Self-consumption rate: 68.5 %
- • Self-sufficiency rate: 23.1 %
- • Avoided CO₂ emissions: more than 915 tons/year
Expansion of our existing energy partnerships
The new solar farm complements our existing collaboration with ECO2GROW. Through this partnership, we have been purchasing around 3.000 MWh of electricity annually from a German wind farm since 2025. This allows us to reduce our CO₂ emissions by an additional 2.100 tons per year. In this way, we ensure a stable supply of energy that is guaranteed to be sustainably generated.
The synergy between wind and solar energy
By combining externally sourced wind energy with our own generated solar power, we are taking an integrated approach:
While green electricity from wind energy ensures our basic supply, the solar park increases our own production directly on-site. In this way, we enhance our security of supply, improve energy efficiency and reduce our long-term dependence on external energy markets.
Another component of sustainable business practices
The solar park is a central component of our energy and sustainability strategy. It helps us further increase the share of renewable energy at our site and consistently pursue our climate goals. At the same time, we rely on local expertise and short supply chains for implementation: Working with local partners strengthens the regional economy and supports the sustainable realization of the project. In this way, we combine environmental responsibility with regional value creation and make a sustainable investment in the future of our site.
